Manually Transforming Your Static Joomla to WordPress

Do want to copy the design of your static website into WordPress then, you need to create a custom theme.

Thankfully, It is not as impossible as it seems in starting. You just need to create some folders and files, a little bit of copy & paste and you are ready to go.

You’re going to require a code editor; for example, Sublime Text or Notepad++ and access to both your HTML site’s directory and your new WordPress install’s directory.

Now, you are ready to follow these simple steps.

Step 1: Start with Installing the Joomla to WordPress Plugin

Let’s dive right into it. Before touching your existing site in Joomla, you need to head up to WordPress dashboard and add new plugin; Joomla to WordPress plugin

After installation, you will be redirected to the ‘plugin’ page. Here you can see the list of all plugins. Select and active Joomla to WordPress plugin and proceed further for the second step.

Step 2: Now, Find Out the Joomla Database Parameters

Since you are moving from Joomla, we are assuming that you know about different configuration about the CMS. In the control panel, choose Global Configuration from the drop-down menu.

Once you made your move, click to the server tab.

Here you can see the database information. Keep the tab open for some time and get ready for the next step.

Step 3: Import The Joomla Content Into WordPress

Good News..!! Now you are going through the actual migration process. Return back to the WordPress dashboard and hover on the Tool from the menu. Now, you might see the import option.

WordPress already introduces a lot of import tools, but none for Joomla, hence why we need to install a dedicated plugin for this particular task. Once the plugin successfully installed, you will be able to see a Joomla option nestled in between Categories and Tags Converter and LiveJournal. Click on it.

Now, you will be forced to see a long table with different fields…

The first option you’ll see only affects you if you have previously tinkered with your WordPress install, which is to say, installed extra themes, plugins, or created new pages.

In order for the migration to work correctly, you’ll need a primary installation, so click on Empty WordPress content if there’s anything you might want to delete.

Enter and edit the further settings about the database for any products or it can be a backup for meta tags for SEO. Import everything or important content from Joomla to WordPress and proceed further for next step.

Step 4: Modify Internal Link Structure for Website

If everything goes smoothly and perfect(we hope it happens :p) then you will get a perfect website structure except your internal links, that is. “By internal links, we mean to say that links which head up to the other pages of the website.”

For the finalization, there is another setting in the plugin which indicated and guide you to update internal links structure of the website.

Congratulations!! It’s all done now. If you still confuse in at any step, feel free to contact and we will be there for your help. 🙂
